Light at the end of the tunnel
Well, well, well! There actually IS an end to the tunnel!
We're all doing much better. Still going strong with the GF, the 6.5-yo is doing fabulously, and the ex and I are actually talking. And... the house might even be sold this year! :)
Oh well, one day at a time.
Miracles do Happen
http://aasmodeus.blogspot.com/2006/07/why-silence.html -- wow, it's been quite a long time. The divorce was finalized this January (!) and the house is (AGAIN) on the market (!!). I am hoping that it's sold quickly, and we can move on with our lives, and we can both reduce the great financial burden the mortgage represents. KIDS: A HOUSE IS NOT AN ASSET UNLESS YOU OWN IT OUTRIGHT!!! Otherwise it's a LIABILITY!!!

I kid you not (no pun intended), this is from my 6yo:
DadMy dad is nice
I love my dad
I play with my dad
He lets me play with Legos
I love him
He loves me
Future Pulitzer winner??? Hrmm....
I better invest in Lego stock NOW.
Oops!
I haven't posted in a couple of months! Oops! I'll get some up soon...
And then I'll back-date them to make it *appear* like I've been posting once a month... mwahahahaaaaaaa!
May Daze
6yo loves camping. So we went to Assateague Island! That was hilarious. We had enough time to set up camp, play frisbee on the beach for a while, then duck into the tent with eight other folks while it rained. Never played so many card games.
Next morning, the wind was so strong we had to break camp by 5am (NEVER been so awake so early before!!!). It was fun playing with the makeshift sandstorm being kicked up on the beach. Then we stopped in Ocean City for $1 all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet (ok, he got the $1 deal, it was $7 for me).
We also had lots of fun and learning experiences with a full week together this month!!! WOOHOO!!! Lots of family and pool and park fun. Valley Forge is beautiful! I'm looking forward to lots of summer trips out and about.
What's in a day?
So my 5 turned 6yo wanted to celebrate his birthday, but since he wasn't with me on the precise date, he elected to celebrate it with his cousins --- next month. Oh well :) So he got a couple of presents for his birthdate, and he'll get more later on. Good deal!

I just saw the King Tut exhibit at the Franklin Institute of Science. Wonderful! Even better: my son loved it too! He'd been hankering to see this for ages, ever since he first saw the pamphlet for it.
The best part of the whole exhibit (for me) was the opportunity to discuss religion, in the context of how Akhenaten tried to reduce the panoply of gods previously worshipped with one god (Ra, the sun god), and three generations and much public outcry later, King Tut attempted to fix that major disruption by returning to the diversity of god worship. Unfortunately for him, he died at the young age of 19 before he could see his plan to the end.
My son and I discussed how this compares with modern religion, and why they might have worshipped the sun (it gave light, heat, energy, and therefore life), and what else they might worship for similar reasons.
His favorite part of the show was the CT-scan movie of the insides of Tut's sarcophagus. I have to admit that is a pretty cool setup.
We can't wait to go back and watch the IMAX King Tut movie!
Laughing Babies
I don't know why it's so therapeutic, but
these videos are just TOO AWESOME to pass up, whether you're feeling down and need a pick-me-up or if you just love happiness!
Cheers,

Saying Grace
Betty's husband sums up the gracious part of my theology quite well. Grace here refers to the same root as the word gratitude. Your life will be happier if you are happier with your life.
Prairie Home Companion
Two days ago I got to watch Prairie Home Companion performed LIVE! at the Kimmel Center in Philly. That was SUCH a treat. I'd listened to Garrison Keillor when I was a kid, and it was so soothing to hear the talking, the music, the rhythm of the show.
Thanks to a friend from high school, I fell in love with Queen. Unfortunately Freddie died before I ever had a chance to see them live.
I fell in love with the music from Chess. Unfortunately, they closed LONG LOOOONG before I ever had a chance to see the original Broadway production.
So, I'm VERY glad that I was able to see this one show I love, while the original cast was still around. Terry Gross was really cool too, and Amos Lee was a fresh sound (and local!). Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver were kick ass, and I'm not even used to hearing bluegrass.
